BUFFALO
I am fascinated by the form of animals and how they move, The slow heavy movement of the buffalo is the essence of strength and deep American history. The buffalo symbolizes the tenacity to survive against all odds. The Buffalo emanates stamina and wisdom. It took a lot of stamina for me to get thru graduate school. The buffalo helped me.

SKULLS
In 1995 I spent five months studying painting at Cooper Union in New York City. There I was deeply influenced by the works of Michel Basquiat and the emergence of Graffiti art on the streets and subways. I listened daily to Afro Cuban music and was immersed into the hard core jazz world of the city. The energy was everywhere. These paintings also resonate with my Mexican roots. Yellow skull is a study of the Mayan God of Duality Omoteotl.

WATERCOLOR
These are my first large scale watercolors. I was channelling a lot of information in my mind and trying to find a way to express myself. I could not talk with anyone about what was going on inside me. These paintings were the beginnings of my emergence, a coming out into myself as an artist.
